For me, Fashion and Floristry are a match made in heaven, they go hand in hand and are the ying to each others yang. The fashion side of me is well established. I’ve been working as a fashion stylist for over fifteen years and have had some amazing opportunities bought before me. I’ve travelled to some amazing places on shoots , I’ve worked on magazines and I’ve met some heroes.
The love of floristry has always been there and on a few occasions I was asked to do flower props on shoots. Back in those days I didn’t need to be asked twice if I fancied an early morning trip to the flower market. Having said that there was always a little voice inside saying “ Go and learn the skills, learn how to do it properly”
And so in January 2017 the opportunity came to go and do a 12 week course at West Herts college. My tutor, Lynn was very old school but an amazing inspirational lady who was more than happy to not only teach us but also pass on her wealth of experience about running a successful wedding floristry business from a little shop in Berkhampstead, Herts. Something happened on that first day in her class. I was overwhelmed by and excitement and and belief that yes, I could actually do this and possibly even make a business out of it one day.
In February that year I tackled a few dads at the school gates and twisted their arms up their backs till they caved in and ordered flowers for Valentines. I loved having the orders and delivering to friends that were totally surprised and the feedback was super encouraging. Next came Mother’s Day, more orders and more smiling faces.
Over the last couple of years I’ve been lucky enough to go on a couple of amazing floristry courses, one with Jay Archer and one with Jenn Pinder and I’m very much looking forward to September when I’m off to Yorkshire to spend the day with Sarah at Simply by Arrangement and Sarah Mason whose photography I absolutely love.
